Greater
Bucky Open -
September

|
| What
a great GBO event this year! It is really exciting to
see this event grow as this year we maxed out our outing
with 144 golfers plus we had a beautiful day at the Ridge!
Thanks to your continued support we are really beginning
to make a difference for the UW Children's Hospital and
Bucky Badger student mascots. Thank you to everyone who
made the GBO 2003 a success! |
 |
| On
Friday, we visited the UW Children's Hospital with members
of the UW football team, Bucky Badger, and GBO volunteers
to pass out toys to the children. I can't tell you how
good it feels to see the faces on the children and their
parents light up when we come knocking on their door...talk
about putting things in perspective. Thanks to all of
the volunteers at the hospital for helping make this possible
as this is definitely a highlight of the GBO weekend.
|
 |
| Congratulations
goes out to the winning GBO 2003 foursome of Al
Toon, Jeff Loomans, Craig Endres, Brian Hopfensperger.
They were an amazing - 16 under par and now have
their names inscribed on the GBO Bucky Bowl traveling
trophy! Thanks again to 2002's winning foursome
for really making it a traveling trophy, building
a shipping case, and taking it with them all over
the country. I hope this year's winning foursome
has fun with it as well. |
 |
|
 |
It
was also great to have all 7 of the current Buckys
in attendance at the GBO this year...I had a chance
to spend some time with them and they are really
a great group of guys. |
|
| A
big thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the
upcoming GBO DVD that will be used to help secure future
sponsors! Ryan C. Lake and I had a busy day on Thursday
as we filmed brief interviews with UW Athletic Director
Pat Richter, W Club President Terry Murawski, UW Foundation
President Sandy Wilcox, WAA President Paula Bonner, UW
Basketball Coach Bo Ryan, UW Football Coach Barry Alvarez,
UW Hockey Coach Mike Eaves, Governor Jim Doyle, UW Children's
Hospital David Berry and UW Band Director Mike Leckrone.
Thank you also to 3Oh!5 Creative for help with the production
of the DVD as this will serve as a great tool to help
raise money. Stay tuned for more... |

GBO
Contest winners:
I still don't believe it but apparently on hole #3, my
sister's father-in-law Jeff Wulf Sr. beat my shot which
was only 6 feet away to win the Closest to the Cow. BJ
Perna "won" the shortest drive on hole #6 with
a solid 40 yard effort...now there's a trophy to impress
the grandkids. Former Bucky Danny Nicholas won the longest
drive on #9 with a huge drive over the trees and barely
reached the fairway. DU Rob Peterson stuck a wedge and
won the Closest to the Cow on hole #12. Pete Gennrich
closed his eyes and sank the longest put on #15. Nicki
Stricker cut the corner and pounded the ball over the
3rd trap on 18 to win longest drive. Worst Shot of the
Day honors went to Wick McLaren who on the very first
hole hit the ground 3 feet before the ball, broke his
new driver which sent the club head flying off the tee
box while completely missing the ball...Best Golf Story
went to Bucky who in full uniform hit two balls over the
water on hole #17 and on the green. |
 |
| We
had some great raffle items and thanks to Jenni Schara,
Kat O'Shea, and Tiffany Wilke for their excellent efforts
and raising a new GBO raffle record of $1200! Wick McLaren
ended up with the Michael Finley autographed jersey...John
Hill won 4 box tickets to a UW men's basketball game...the
beautiful Augusta framed print went to Karen Niesen...and
the golf shoes will be worn by John Ambelang. |
